Cosmic Consciousness

Through Self-Realization, Enlightenment, or Awakening one comes to the resurrection of the Cosmic Christ Consciousness within. The return of Christ is not physical but metaphysical. It occurs on a plane of consciousness, awareness, vibration. It is present in everything. In every mind and in every heart. It is in every atom, rock, river, tree, animal, star, moon, and galaxy. It pervades all of this universe and the multiverse flower of life in which it is embedded. Like an infinite net of jewels it is reflected in a cascade of twinkling light. Like a tapestry of many colors it comforts us in its enshrouding embrace.

This Cosmic Christ is part of a Trinity- Creator, Christ, and Comforter. The Christ is the Logos. The logic of all life in its full multidimensionality. The Logos is the Word, which is Love in action. The Creator is the Cosmos, the infinite source of goodness. The Christ is the mediator between Cosmos and Chaos, constantly reclaiming the virtuous cycle from the grasp of the vicious cycle. The Comforter or Holy Spirit is this infinite bond between Creator and Christ.

With the experience of the Cosmic Christ Consciousness, one enters into participation with the full reconciliation of Creator and Creation. With the atonement of the historical Jesus, all of Creation is redeemed. In Genesis, the Bible begins with the creation of the Heavens and Earth with Humanity set in perfect relationship with God within the Garden of Eden. In Revelations, the Bible ends with the recreation of the New Heavens and New Earth. In Greek, apokálypsis means the unveiling or revealing of Truth. The continual revelation is that the New Heavens and the New Earth are brought into being by the Cosmic Christ Consciousness present in all recreation, rebirth, and renewal.

The crowning of the Cosmic Christ Consciousness is a deep spiritual bliss. It is the liberation of the spirit from all dualistic tendencies. It is the state of having found the Truth, which shall set you free in Love. The Cosmic Consciousness is universal to all spirituality, philosophy, theology, and religion.

The subject is further explored in Cosmic Consciousness: A Study in the Evolution of the Human Mind, a 1901 book by the psychiatrist Richard Maurice Bucke. B
ucke hypothesizes that the next stage of human development, which he calls Cosmic Consciousness, is emerging and will eventually spread throughout all of humanity as the result of evolutionary progression. In his words, this psychological evolution will “literally create a New Heaven and New Earth.”  Bucke addresses many historical case studies of individuals as diverse as Jesus the Christ, Gautama the Buddha, Mohammed, Socrates, Emerson, Thoreau, and Whitman. Moreover, William James writes similarly about Cosmic Consciouness as the quintessential mystical experience in The Varieties of Religious Experiences

“In mystic states we both become one with the Absolute and we become aware of our oneness. This is the everlasting and triumphant mystical tradition, hardly altered by differences of clime or creed. In Hinduism, in Neoplatonism, in Sufism, in Christian mysticism, in Whitmanism, we find the same recurring note, so that there is about mystical utterances an eternal unanimity...”  -William James

This unanimity is the same underlying unity of the Deep Ecology Movement which holds that the world’s spiritual and philosophical traditions all point towards principles of ecological care. Deep Ecology uses an ontological perspective that leads us through Self-Realization, in which we come to identify with an expanding circle of care beyond the individual self, extending outside humanity towards nature and ultimately the majesty of the multiverse. When our individual being unites with Being Itself, we are experiencing Cosmic Consciousness.
