New Heavens, New Earth

We are witnessing a critical moment in the history of the planetary person - both macro and micro. At this apex we face unprecedented environmental degradation driven by the forces of climate change and the sixth mass extinction, all due to unbridled human activity in the form of massive consumerism and industrialism. This culmination of ecological catastrophes is an apocalyptic moment. In order to address this ecological crisis we will need to develop new worldviews on a civilizational scale. Each of these new perspectives are to be known as the New Heavens and New Earth, dreaming of two visions of a future society. These are blueprints to recreate in the aftermath of the eco-apocalypse. This delivers two competing utopias that must sort out their differences and amplify their contrasts. The New Heavens presents a Celestial Technotopia - in pursuit of endless worlds, realms, and possibilities; seeking to colonize other planets; evolving humanity with science and technology via extending life and diminishing work. The New Earth represents a Terrestrial Ecotopia in which bio-egalitarianism results in cross species community, organic models of natural processes lead to ecologically compatible design, and considering the planet as a living organism propels a new stewardship paradigm. In order to make this future a reality now, we will need to consider ourselves as dual citizens of these two spheres of influence.
