Metaphysics of Liberation

What will be intended with the following posts will be the exploration of a set of philosophical thought with attention to metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, and aesthetics. This post will treat the topic of metaphysics in reference to William James' pragmatism. First, metaphysics is the branch of philosophy concerning questions of being, existence and reality. One way to question this is to qualify existence by way of dualism. However, multiversalism is fundamentally nondual, meaning it is not two. Nondualism has the three alternatives of nonism, monism, and pluralism. Nonism implies skepticism - the denial of any way to know the composition of existence. Whereas, monism suggests that one form or principle can explain all of the occurrences of reality. Pluralism contends that existence is always many and consists of diversity and fragmentation.

Multiversalism is the synthesis of the three alternatives to nondualism. This is accomplished most astutely by William James' writings. For James, a pragmatic criterion must asses metaphysical claims. What difference does it make to believe in any of the former metaphysical configurations? James reasons that monism risks rigidity, whereas pluralism is too fragmented and separated. While, nonism is too ambiguous and nihilistic. With multiversalism there is multidimensional unity meaning there is not permanent separation but there is distinction. Multiversalism in its practical effects is in the service to liberty and agency because it leaves opportunities for co-creation since the coordination of things is incomplete. Thus the thesis of metaphysical libertarianism or free will is associated with multiversalism.

Pursuing the path of nondualism leads to the empowering of free will, which is so essential to liberation in one's life. This liberation moves beyond the duality of free will versus determinism to a dimension where they are compatible. This liberation is enlightenment on the scale of an ecology of metaphysics. No single metaphysics provides for the structure of reality, rather we should see the multiplicity of metaphysics as tools for anticipating our futures. This world making thesis is an attempt to spur innovation in developing new worlds themselves.
